You came through for me again! I had seen the photo part of the upper one before (or maybe a different shot of the same shop -- can't remember), but didn't know where it was. The fabulous bottom pic clears it up. Thanks!
Odd the Copes General Store/ F.O. Dunmon Shop/Norman Barton Shop isn't visible on the right. The place is barely off the road. There is fencing in this photo.
I'd guess that it's probably just out of the shot. The building is actually set back a bit from the road -- there's enough room to park a car head on in front of it, and the road was probably narrower then, too.
I noticed the fence, too. If you go back and look closely at the first old pic in the Bridge 155 post, it looks like there was a house on the east side of Newport Road, across from the two houses that are still there (has a high pointed Gothic gable, like some of the houses on New Street and Old Cap Trl). I wonder if the fence might have been theirs, and that property went over to Old Cap Trl. Maybe that's why Copes was not on the corner. Just a thought. I've spent whole mornings just staring at and analyzing these pictures. (And yes, I know how sad that is.)
