The former 32 acre Ametek site straddles both sides of the
Red Clay Creek in New Castle County, Delaware. It extends approximately ¾ of a
mile from RT41, under Kirkwood Highway to Newport Road in Marshallton. The
parcel contains two remaining structures, an area of concrete, a parking lot
and the balance in woods. It is the site of Hersey’s Mill constructed around
1765 and retains the original millrace. Along its eastern boundary runs the
Historic Wilmington and Western Railroad. Its northern boundary ends at RT41
and the W & W Station, just below Greenbank Mill and Brandywine Springs.
Its central location in this part of the county presents a unique opportunity.
It would lend itself to the connection of more open space and parkland below in
the Kiamensi area. Making this more of a possibility is the construction of a
new bridge and sidewalks on Newport Road connecting Old Capitol Trail, across
from the Ametek site, with Delcastle High School.

The original mill was built by Isaac Hershe in the mid 1720's. -Walt C.
You have my attention Walt...
I have seen where Isaac Hersey immigrated to the US in 1720 and purchased some land and a mill in Mill Creek Hundred but would not have thought it being the one that sat on the Old Ametek site. I will send you an email.
